How To Choose A Niche Market

Are you new to blogging and wondering how to choose a niche market for your website?  For new bloggers, this is often the most worrisome part of starting a new blog.

What Is A Niche

The short answer is, a niche is a specific group with a common interest in a specific product or service, in other words, an audience.

The ideal way to choose your niche is to choose something you are passionate about but it doesn’t have to be.

Anything you have an interest in can be your niche. It can also be something you know nothing about but have a genuine interest in learning about.

My interest are wide and varied.

I love travel, women’s fashion, cooking, knitting and crochet, internet marketing and airplanes.  I also love diving in and learning new things.

Right now my focus is on learning everything I can about Making Money Online with affiliate marketing, creating a passive income for myself and being able to work from anywhere I happen to be.

Almost everything you can think of is a niche that you can make money with.

That’s because people are searching online for answers and solutions and spending billions of dollars on every product or service you can think of.

Your online business should be fun so that’s why it’s important to choose a niche that you are truly interested in.

It should be something that will be fun to write about either because you love it or you really want to learn about it.  It should never feel like a job.

Some Things To Ponder When Choosing Your Niche

Your first niche will probably not be your last niche, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.  Here are a few things to think about as you are choosing your niche:

  • You will be writing lots of content about this niche
  • You will be communicating within this niche
  • You are going to be promoting products and/or services in this niche
  • You will be helping people in this niche
  • Any single niche website can become a full time income/business

So as you are considering what niche to choose keep the things above in mind and if they might work for you in your niche.

There Is No Such Thing As A Wrong Niche

Please do not fret too much over the niche you choose.  There is no such thing as a wrong niche.  You are not stuck in your niche forever.  You can always change your niche at a later date.

See the list below that will help you find your niche:

  • Identify your interest and/or passion
  • Identify problems you can solve within your niche
  • Determine the profitability of your niche
  • Research your competition
  • Test out your idea

If you are totally stuck and can’t decide on a niche, my suggestion to you is to choose the “Make Money Online”/”Affiliate Marketing”.  Just get started!  The important thing here is that you get started.

I couldn’t break it down to one thing when I was trying to choose my niche so I chose Affiliate Marketing/Make Money Online.

I know it is a very broad niche and one that is a lot harder to break into because there are so many folks in this niche.

If you can stick with it and work a little harder in the beginning, I think the rewards are much greater in the end.

After You Choose Your Niche

After You Choose your niche, it’s time to really get to work.  You have a domain name to choose and a website to set up.

You need to install your new website, (another scary one for newbies) set up your site for search engines to find,(S.E.O.) set up a sitemap, get your site verified in Google, Bing and Yahoo, create some pages, a privacy policy page, a disclaimer page, about me page, contact page and much more.

When choosing your domain name, be sure to keep in mind that it should be something that is relevant to your niche.  It doesn’t need to be an exact match but at least be relevant.

This all takes time but you should be able to get most of this work done in just a couple of days.  The next big chore is to do keyword research on your niche and decide on few keywords in your niche that your first few post will be written about.

As a brand new site with no traffic you should choose low competition keywords ( less than 50 QSR) if you want them to quickly get indexed in the search engines and start attracting traffic.

You will succeed a lot faster if you keep your goal to helping others rather than making money.  When you help others, they come to trust you and when you start posting affiliate links after you have gained the trust of your visitors, they tend to click your links and buy.

If you are truly are helping others, you will never need to sell a thing.

One thing to keep in mind as you start your new online business is, success doesn’t happen overnight.    It takes a lot of time and hard work.  It takes patient and determination

Conclusion

There is no wrong niche.  Just choose a subject you can write about with interest.  There are products and services to promote no matter what niche you choose.

There are people out there searching for help and solutions to problems, no matter what the niche you choose.  If you put helping people before making money you will be way more successful and you won’t have to sell anything.

The best way to get traffic to your website is by helping people.  The way you do that is by keeping abreast of the most popular searches and have the solutions or answers your visitors are searching for.

If you can help your visitors solve a problem or find the answers they need, you have done your job.

Have fun getting started with your new online business.

Until next time, Fran
